On September 16, gamers will be able to experience the power of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed -- the next chapter of the Star Wars saga and LucasArts' first next-generation Star Wars game. Counting down to its release, StarWars.com will showcase some of the amazing art developed as the game's biggest, most challenging concepts took shape. This art can be found in The Art and Making of The Force Unleashed, a lavishly illustrated behind-the-scenes book from Insight Editions, written by game producers Haden Blackman and Brett Rector. The book is truly an insider's guide to the development of a cutting edge video game and a major chapter in the Star Wars story.

Early Tractor Beam Concept Art by Chris Voy

When thinking about the [TIE Fighter Construction] facility as a gameplay space, we decided that this would be a great opening area for the player to learn how to use his basic Force powers: Force grip and Force push. The space needed to be dynamic, big, and set the tone for the rest of the game. Throughout the level, designers implemented many destructible set-pieces, such as catwalks that can be ripped apart and destroyed, and we populated each area with plenty of enemies and objects that can be used as projectiles. It has also proved to be an excellent showcase for Digital Molecular Matter, a technology that enables the player to bend metal and blow open thick Imperial doors using the Force.
